This photo was taken at the first Sunday Rally of the Veterans Revolution, March 9, 2008. Left to right: Dr. Wiley Drake, a two-tour Vietnam War veteran; Gene Simes, a disabled Marine combat veteran of the Vietnam War; and the late Steve Palmer, an 88-year-old disabled World War II veteran. Gene Simes brought this 48-star U.S. flag from Rochester, New York; it belonged to his father, a World War II combat veteran, and it is hanging above the chained and padlocked front gates to the Los Angeles National Veterans Home.
